In Long Beach, California, a heartbreaking incident unfolded as a dog owner callously abandoned their pet, a Bull Terrier mix, on the street. The distressing moment was captured by a dismayed onlooker who witnessed the owner throwing the dog out of their Lexus before driving away.
The scene, recorded by a food delivery driver trailing the car without license plates, depicts the dog futilely chasing after its owner as they hastily depart. In the video, the delivery driver can be heard expressing shock and dismay at the callous act, exclaiming, “The owner is literally leaving him… look! Oh my God.”
Destiny Gomez, a 24-year-old woman dedicated to finding homes for stray animals, came across the video and reached out to the delivery driver. Gomez shared her emotional response upon watching the video, stating that it deeply moved her and left her unable to forget about the abandoned dog.
Based on the footage, it appears that the dog made desperate attempts to keep up with the departing car as it traversed several streets in the vicinity where it was abandoned. Subsequently, Gomez took to Instagram, leveraging her extensive network of dog lovers, to seek assistance in locating the dog.
Following tips from concerned individuals who spotted the dog, Gomez’s boyfriend embarked on a search in the neighborhood where the abandonment occurred. After hours of searching, he successfully located the dog, unharmed.
Ensuring the dog’s safety, Gomez provided him with care, food, and grooming before giving him the name “Chico” and securing a foster parent for him in Palos Verdes, a nearby area. Now, Gomez is determined to find Chico a permanent and loving home.
While offers to adopt Chico have poured in through direct messages on social media, Gomez is prioritizing involving a rescue organization in the adoption process. She emphasized her commitment to finding Chico the best possible “forever home” where he will be cherished and cared for.
