A young dog facing the prospect of euthanasia after undergoing surgery to remove an eye has been saved and is now on the path to a new beginning.
Lily, a 10-month-old Maltese-shih tzu cross, underwent surgery at the PDSA due to complications with her left eye. However, her owners made the heartbreaking decision not to bring her home post-operation and requested euthanasia instead.
Fortunately, Ashbourne Animal Welfare in Derbyshire stepped in to rescue Lily, providing her with the care and compassion she needed. Despite her challenging start, Lily has made a remarkable recovery from her ordeal.
Upon arrival at The Ark kennels in Ashbourne, Lily’s story resonated with many, prompting an outpouring of support on social media. The charity recounted Lily’s initial condition, describing her as suffering from severe matting, overgrown claws, and sore, thickened skin.
Despite the challenges, Lily’s resilient spirit shines through, and with proper grooming and care, she is now ready for a fresh start. The charity expressed gratitude for Lily’s cooperative nature throughout the grooming process and noted that her fur had to be completely removed to ensure her comfort and well-being.
As Lily continues her journey to recovery, the charity is actively exploring potential forever homes for this sweet-natured and affectionate pup once her stitches are removed. Lily’s story serves as a reminder of the resilience of animals and the importance of second chances.
While Lily’s future looks brighter, Ashbourne Animal Welfare continues its mission to find loving homes for the many other dogs, cats, and kittens in its care, highlighting the ongoing need for adoption and support within the community.
