Woman’s Adoption of Senior Dog Transforms Her Life

by Lisa

In an inspiring story shared with “Good Morning America,” Jackie Pajan reveals how adopting a senior golden retriever named Noah profoundly impacted her life.

Pajan, 41, a pet loss companion who guides others through the grieving process following the death of a pet, faced considerable doubt before adopting Noah. Many people, she explained, are wary of senior dogs, fearing they may be on the verge of passing away or lacking in vitality and fun.

Contrary to these beliefs, Pajan found that senior dogs can be unexpectedly rewarding. Known as Rainbow Bridge Raina on social media, Pajan uses her platform to discuss pet loss openly.

After the death of her cherished golden retriever Ryley, whom she described as her “soul dog,” Pajan sought another senior golden retriever. Her search led her to Noah, who, despite his prior life in a different environment with other animals, quickly adapted to his new home.

Noah, who had never lived in a house before, needed to learn simple things like using stairs and understanding the concept of relaxation and play. Pajan observed that Noah, unlike many golden retrievers, preferred a quieter life and enjoyed leisurely activities such as playing with tennis balls.

Pajan described Noah as a gentle and contented soul, noting that he embraced retirement and the comforts of a relaxed lifestyle.

Sadly, Noah passed away a year and a half after Pajan adopted him. In a heartfelt TikTok tribute from July, she reflected on how Noah had supported her family through a particularly challenging period. She expressed hope that Noah felt the immense love and appreciation that surrounded him.

As a pet loss companion, Pajan considers the grief from losing a pet as significant as losing a human loved one. Her experience with Noah has reinforced her belief in the importance of accepting each dog as they are, appreciating the unique joy they bring regardless of their similarities or differences from past pets.

“Noah taught me that while dogs might share the same breed, each one can offer a unique and enriching experience,” Pajan said. “His presence showed me that love and fulfillment come in many forms, even in our beloved companions.”
