Shelter Dogs Get the Star Treatment to Boost Adoption Chances

by Lisa

In a heartwarming initiative, the All Dogs Matter shelter in London has given its residents a glamorous makeover to increase their chances of finding forever homes. The special photoshoot aimed to highlight the charm of older, larger, and less conventionally photogenic dogs, as well as pairs of dogs that need to be adopted together.

The event, held in the picturesque countryside, was designed to give these dogs the “supermodel treatment.” Among the stars were Bobby and Brandy, a bonded pair of Yorkshire Terriers aged 12 and 14, who have been waiting for a home for several months. Alice, a two-year-old crossbreed, also enjoyed her moment in the spotlight.

The idea for the photoshoot was inspired by a recent survey of 2,000 adults. The poll revealed that while nearly half of Britons are interested in adopting a dog or getting a second pet, 58% prefer younger dogs. Many believe puppies are easier to train, and 71% of individuals aged 18 to 34 are influenced to visit rescue shelters after seeing appealing dog images on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

The glamorous shots were captured using second-hand cameras provided by Wex Photo Video, which partnered with the shelter to give these dogs a chance to showcase their personalities. Paul Wareham, marketing director at Wex Photo Video, emphasized, “Every dog deserves their moment in the spotlight, regardless of age or appearance.”

The survey also indicated that 46% of people feel good about giving an abandoned dog a second chance, with one-third inclined to choose dogs that have been waiting the longest. The images are intended to appeal to potential adopters by highlighting the unique personalities of these overlooked animals.

Ira Moss, founder of All Dogs Matter, highlighted the importance of such initiatives: “We see firsthand how much joy and love rescued dogs can bring, even if they don’t have that ‘puppy appeal.’ This photoshoot helps show that with a bit of love and the right photo, our wonderful dogs can shine and hopefully find a new home.”
