Mom Trains Her Goldendoodle to Give ‘Human Cuddles’ After Work

by Lisa

There’s nothing quite like the joyful greeting from a dog after a long day, and one Goldendoodle mom has taken this delightful interaction to the next level by teaching her pup to give human-like hugs.

As a devoted dog mom, I often reflect on how special it is to be greeted by my furry friend after work. While my kid and cats show some excitement, it’s my dog who brings the most enthusiasm and warmth. The moment I pull into the driveway, I can see her eager face pressed against the window, tail wagging before I’ve even gotten out of the car.

In a recent video shared by Australia-based dog mom @isabellasdunne, she showcases her training efforts with her Goldendoodle, Fletcher, affectionately known as a Groodle. “POV: You teach your dog human cuddles for when you get home from work every day,” she captioned the video.

In the clip, Fletcher is lounging on the bed when Isabella enters the house. Upon seeing her, he jumps up and immediately gives her a heartfelt hug with his front legs—just like a human would. It’s hard to imagine a more heartwarming welcome!

Why Goldendoodles Love to Cuddle

While many dogs may not enjoy being hugged, often perceiving it as a sign of restraint or dominance, Goldendoodles like Fletcher seem to thrive on such affection. According to enthusiasts, these dogs were bred to be affectionate companions, making them more receptive to cuddles than some other breeds.

For pet parents whose Goldendoodles love to smother them with affection, it’s essential to encourage this behavior with plenty of positive reinforcement. Returning the cuddles and love helps to strengthen that bond. After all, is there anything sweeter than a furry friend who can’t wait to wrap their paws around you?
