A couple’s recent attempt to introduce their dog to the joys of camping has taken an amusing turn, as a viral TikTok video reveals their pet’s clear disdain for the outdoor adventure. The video, posted by user @emilygrant946 on September 1, captures the couple’s camping setup complete with a picnic table and a cozy tiny home on wheels, but their dog had other ideas.
The video begins with a glimpse of the couple’s camping area, which included a dog blanket, food, and water bowls placed next to the picnic table. Viewers might expect to see the dog happily lounging outside; however, he was nowhere to be found.
Instead, the footage transitions to the tiny home, where the dog had chosen to stay inside, peering through the windows at the “frightening” world outside. He was evidently trying to avoid eye contact with his owners, who were enjoying their snack outdoors.
When the couple finally coaxed him outside, the dog remained on the steps leading up to the tiny home, wearing an expression of utter discontent. His squinting gaze seemed to convey his thoughts: “Why on earth would they bring me here?”
Despite the couple’s belief that their dog would relish the camping experience, he preferred the comfort of indoors. Following the trip, the owner shared with Newsweek via TikTok that camping is now officially off the table for future family vacations.
The comical video has gained significant traction, amassing over 404,800 views and 56,000 likes as of Friday afternoon. Comments from viewers reflected the dog’s reluctance to embrace the outdoors, with one noting, “He’s an indoor air-conditioned couch dog,” while another added, “He doesn’t even want his paws touching those outside stairs.” Even the official TikTok account for Google chimed in, commenting, “He’s already thinking of the route home.”
While many dogs adore outdoor activities, this dog’s reluctance highlights that not all pets share the same enthusiasm for the great outdoors. According to a recent article by Dogster, several factors could explain why some dogs prefer staying indoors. These reasons may include medical issues, fear from past traumas, boredom, or discomfort with weather conditions.
