Skiptown, Denver’s newest dog park, officially opened on October 4 in York Street Yards and is gearing up for a grand opening celebration this weekend.
In an exciting development for local pet owners, Skiptown has transformed into a sprawling 50,000-square-foot haven for dogs, featuring not only extensive play areas but also amenities designed with both pets and their owners in mind. According to Meggie Williams, the park’s manager, Skiptown prioritizes creating a dog-focused environment where canines can enjoy themselves in a safe and welcoming space.
As one enthusiastic canine reviewer, Lucy, a five-year-old mixed breed, can attest, the experience starts the moment pets arrive. Upon entering the park, dogs are treated like VIPs (Very Important Pets), enjoying a personalized tour of the various services available, including a grooming salon, a training studio, and a boarding facility. Humans can conveniently book these services through a mobile app designed for the park, making it easy for them to stay connected with their furry friends.
The park’s decor is thoughtfully designed, featuring calming pastel colors that create a tranquil atmosphere for the dogs. Lucy, who recently indulged in a pampering session at the grooming salon, proudly sported a stylish pink bow, much to her owner’s delight.
At Skiptown, dogs are grouped according to size and play style. The daycare area divides pups into 12 distinct categories, including “kangaroos” and “badgers.” Lucy, initially placed in the energetic “meerkats” group, soon found her niche among the “koalas,” a more relaxed assembly of smaller dogs. Trained staff, known as “skippers,” ensure that playtime remains safe and enjoyable for all dogs, monitoring their interactions to prevent roughhousing.
For human companions, the park offers an inviting bar and café area where they can unwind. Membership options start at $210 per year, or visitors can opt for a day pass priced at $15. The outdoor area is equipped with climbing rocks, expansive spaces for play, and a cushy turf that feels delightful underfoot. An innovative irrigation system keeps the turf clean and cool, while dedicated staff maintain cleanliness throughout the premises.
Human patrons can indulge in a variety of beverages, including coffee from Queen City Collective and specialized dog-friendly drinks like puppuccinos and dog beer made from foamy bone broth. Local breweries, such as Ratio Beerworks and Second Dawn Brewing, provide a selection of beers, while seasonal cocktails and food trucks enhance the experience for hungry guests.
In addition to being a place for play and relaxation, Skiptown promises a vibrant social scene. Upcoming events will feature trivia nights, drag shows, and singles meetups, allowing dog parents to connect with one another in a fun and lively environment.
Mark your calendars for Skiptown’s grand opening festivities from October 18 to 20, which will include free doggie ice cream, tail dyeing, nail painting, and pet portraits.
