A Chesapeake woman is desperately asking for the public’s assistance in locating her mother’s emotional support dog, Lola, after the miniature golden doodle was stolen outside the Chesapeake Square Walmart on Tuesday.
Constance Stewart is seeking to reunite her mother, who was recently diagnosed with dementia, with her beloved companion. According to Stewart, her mother went to Walmart to purchase a new dog bed for Lola but became disoriented during the trip. Stewart received a call at work informing her that her mother needed to be picked up from the store.
Stewart explained that after being told Lola could not enter the store, her mother tied the dog to a pole outside. That’s when the dog was taken by an unknown individual. Stewart emphasized that Lola is essential for her mother’s well-being, helping her maintain a routine, providing comfort, and encouraging her to go for daily walks around her senior apartment.
“My mom is devastated,” Stewart said. “This was a complete accident on her part. Lola has been by my mom’s side since she was six weeks old, and she’s vital for her health and emotional support.”
Chesapeake Police confirmed the dog was stolen between 10 a.m. and noon on Tuesday. Stewart has since contacted local authorities, including animal control, and has taken to social media in hopes of finding Lola. She believes a woman in a floral shirt may have taken the dog from outside the Walmart.
“I’m just asking anyone who might have seen something or knows anything to please come forward,” Stewart said. “If you’ve seen a new dog, please call and help us get Lola back.”
The Chesapeake Police Department is currently investigating the theft. Anyone with information about Lola’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
