An Australian man has been left stunned after receiving a six-figure vet bill for his beloved dachshund, Fritz, following a traumatic accident. The incident, which occurred when the dog was struck by a car trailer, resulted in significant veterinary costs amounting to over $120,000.
Cam, a Melbourne resident, recounted the shocking ordeal during a radio interview on Nova’s Ben, Liam & Belle show. “The total vet bill came to more than $120,000,” he said, prompting gasps of disbelief from the hosts. “Is this a horse?” co-host Belle Jackson asked in astonishment, before learning it was, in fact, a dachshund.
Fritz, once a healthy dog, endured a long recovery process that included two hip replacements, reconstructive surgery, and treatment for damage to his bladder. According to Cam, the road to recovery spanned six months and involved extensive medical intervention. Despite the hefty price tag, Cam expressed relief that Fritz had survived the ordeal. “He’s a million-dollar dog,” he proudly declared.
The significant vet bill has drawn attention to the potential costs of pet care, particularly in emergency situations. While Cam had pet insurance, which reimbursed him $20,000, the remainder of the costs were paid out of pocket, highlighting the financial strain that can accompany unexpected accidents.
Although the price was steep, Cam’s commitment to Fritz’s recovery showcases the deep bond between owner and pet. “It’s a heart of gold,” said Jackson, acknowledging the lengths to which Cam went to ensure his dog’s survival.
