Family Appeals for Help to Find Missing Collie, Forrest

by Lisa

A Clearwater family is making an emotional plea for help in locating their beloved dog, Forrest, a two-year-old collie who disappeared on Nov. 10 near Pump Town Road off Highway 5.

The Minci family, who recently began moving to the Raft River area, is offering a reward for the safe return of their furry companion. Forrest, described as a “rough collie with brown and white long hair,” was in good health and well-groomed when last seen. However, recent sightings suggest he may now appear dirty and frightened.

“We believe there have been a few sightings of him not far from where he went missing,” said Lexi Minci, the dog’s owner, during an interview on Sunday, Nov. 24. One reported sighting was on Saturday near Blackwater Creek, where a dog matching Forrest’s description appeared disoriented.

With winter weather settling in, the family is increasingly concerned for Forrest’s safety. “We’re asking residents to check outbuildings where he might be taking shelter and to spread the word,” Lexi said, her voice breaking with emotion. “If anyone sees him, please don’t frighten him. Contact us or the Clearwater Humane Society immediately.”

Forrest was a cherished playmate for Jacob, 9, and Bridget, 6. Both children are devastated by his disappearance. “I miss him a lot, especially when I get home from school and he’d jump up, happy to see me,” Jacob shared. Bridget echoed her brother’s sentiment, saying softly, “I want him to come home.”

The search for Forrest has mobilized neighbors, friends, and even strangers, with the Clearwater Humane Society coordinating efforts. On its Facebook page, the organization urged volunteers to be prepared for harsh winter conditions as they assist in the search.

Lexi recounted the heartbreaking moment Forrest disappeared. “We were outside playing, and suddenly he was gone. We called and called, then started searching,” she said. Despite the family’s efforts, the search has yet to yield results, leaving them desperate for any information that could lead to Forrest’s safe return.

Residents are encouraged to contact the Clearwater Humane Society or the RCMP if they spot Forrest or have any information about his whereabouts.

For the Minci family, finding Forrest is more than a search for a missing pet—it’s a heartfelt plea to bring a vital part of their family back home.
