A local man from Beverley, East Yorkshire, has turned his passion for dogs into a fundraising initiative, capturing their charm in a heartwarming charity calendar. Tim Hart, who has befriended over 100 dogs on his daily walks, has partnered with the Candlelighters cancer charity to support children battling cancer.
Hart, known for carrying dog treats during his strolls along Beverley Beck, photographs the dogs he meets, creating a charming collection for a calendar. The project is especially close to his heart after learning about Aalia, a young girl from the region diagnosed with the rare Wilms tumour, a form of kidney cancer. At just four years old, Aalia’s struggle moved Hart deeply, prompting him to act.
He shared, “The poor girl is only four and can’t do anything to help herself, but we can.”
The calendar, which features photos of dogs such as Flora, Peanut, and Sam, aims to raise funds for Candlelighters, a charity that has supported children affected by cancer for nearly five decades. The charity has been a source of vital help to Aalia and her family during their difficult journey.
Despite not owning a dog himself due to apartment restrictions, Hart has become a well-loved figure among the local dog-walking community. His daily walks have earned him a reputation as a “dog whisperer,” with many dogs eagerly approaching him for treats. Sarah Hill, who runs a dog-boarding business, praised Hart’s bond with the dogs, saying, “All the dogs absolutely love him.”
Simon Heath, another local dog-walker, noted the calendar’s appeal, adding that his dogs, Maeve and Maisy, are usually well-behaved—until they spot Hart and rush to greet him. “It just sums up the Beverley Beck dog-walking area,” Heath said. “It’s a really nice community.”
Hart is selling the calendars for £7, with all proceeds going directly to Candlelighters. Those interested can purchase a calendar through his social media or find him during his daily walks at Beverley Beck.
Tom Robertshaw, Head of Fundraising at Candlelighters, expressed gratitude for Hart’s efforts, emphasizing how the community’s support helps lighten the emotional, practical, and financial burdens faced by families like Aalia’s. “Brilliant people like Tim are the ones who ensure that families don’t face this journey alone,” he said.
The calendar is not only a tribute to the dogs Hart meets but also a reminder of the strength and kindness of a community coming together for a worthy cause.
