Some pet owners choose to “prefabricate” the New Year for their pets before the New Year because they want to go home for the New Year.
In order to fully fit the local characteristics of Wuhan, Ms. Li, the store manager, specially customized the Hubei limited edition pet “New Year’s Eve Dinner” for consumers. It contains a pot of noodles, pearl balls, Huangpi Sanxian, pot of lotus root soup and other snacks with Hubei characteristics. However, not all pet owners are enthusiastic about buying a pet for the New Year’s Eve dinner. Some pet owners are more inclined to spend a plain and ordinary Spring Festival with their pets.
From the overall situation of the market, the rich variety and exquisite style of pet “New Year’s Eve dinner” is selling hot on major e-commerce platforms. Taking Taobao e-commerce platform as an example, pet “New Year’s Eve dinner” is mostly sold in the form of gift boxes, the price range is between 20 yuan and 300 yuan. The reporter observed on the Jingdong e-commerce platform that the sales volume of a brand of pet “New Year’s Eve dinner” is quite high, which includes a variety of choices such as ingot dumpling meal, complete dumpling meal, and rice cake meal.
Some consumers give comments after the purchase, one consumer said: “The New Year people eat the New Year’s Eve dinner, the dog also wants to eat, the dog likes it, directly dazzle finished!” Another consumer said: “Bought a lot of copies, leave a copy for the dog to eat during the New Year, so that the dog can also eat the festive New Year’s Eve dinner.”
As a pet nutritionist, pet restaurant owner Ms. Li told reporters that she not only customized a balanced “New Year’s Eve dinner” package for pets, but also fully took into account the local characteristics of Wuhan, and integrated Wuhan people’s common characteristic dishes on the reunion dinner table into the dog’s “New Year’s Eve dinner”.
For example, the Hubei special snack “noodle nest”, Ms. Li made a similar shape of noodle nest by baking it with eggs. Other dishes use Turkey, pork tenderloin and other ingredients, using a variety of cooking methods such as baking, steaming, cooking, etc., to produce different flavors, and according to the taste preferences of the dog to screen and adjust.
According to Ms. Li, the pet “New Year’s Eve dinner” sold in her restaurant is priced at 298 yuan, and the buyers are mainly young women between 25 and 30 years old. “In the current pet economy, many people feel that their dogs should enjoy the New Year’s cheer.”
Many customers told her that although they hoped to take their dogs with their families to celebrate the New Year, they did not have enough time to take care of their dogs during the New Year, so they needed to create a New Year atmosphere for their dogs in advance.
Ms. Li also revealed that a customer ordered five “New Year’s Eve dinners” at one time. It is reported that the customer not only purchased the “New Year’s Eve dinner” for his pet, but also specially dressed the dog in the festive costume of dragon and lion dance, and gave the gift box as a New Year’s goods to his pet’s “small partners”. “Dogs also have a kind of social interaction with each other.”
Many customers said that preparing the “New Year’s Eve dinner” for their dogs not only gives them satisfaction, but also makes the dogs gain happiness from it.
According to Ms. Li’s observation, there are many people who work in Wuhan all year round, and after the holiday, they can’t take their dogs home for the New Year due to many inconveniences, and they will choose to go to the store to “prefabricate” the New Year. The store carefully prepared the scenery of “New Year private room” for such customers to create a strong festive atmosphere. At present, there are five groups of pet families with dogs to offline stores “in advance of the New Year.” Some pet owners will dress their dogs in New Year costumes and take New Year photos to give their dogs a sense of ritual.
Ms Li said: “When the dog is eating the New Year’s Eve dinner, I believe the owners must also hope that the dog can participate in it.” Our restaurant just provides that platform, and the joy is shared by both owners and pets.”
However, there are still some pet owners who have a negative attitude towards buying a pet “New Year’s Eve dinner”.
Pet owner Ma told reporters that he will choose to give his dog “extra food” rather than buy “New Year’s Eve dinner”. He felt that the dog’s New Year does need a certain sense of ceremony, but those who have been beautifully packaged “gift boxes” are flashy, “feel not as clean as their own health.” When I’m rich, I’ll buy beef for my baby, and when I’m not, I’ll buy a chicken, with meat and bones, so that my dog can grind his teeth and eat meat.”
Ms. Zhu, a pet keeper from Wuhan, also said: “My family is a small soil dog, and I do not pay attention to these. The dog does not know that the New Year is coming, and it does not like to buy New Year’s clothes for it. It’s a waste of money and you might as well take care of it as usual.”
