A unique duo in Broomfield, Colorado, has captured the hearts of thousands online. Uber driver Kevin Ferman and his dog, Bowie, have become viral stars after filming their rides together. Bowie, a rescue dog who rides shotgun on all of Ferman’s trips, has attracted hundreds of thousands of views across social media platforms, making him an internet sensation.
Ferman, who has been an Uber driver for a decade, adopted Bowie a few years ago from a friend who rescued a litter of puppies in New Mexico. After adopting Bowie, Ferman quickly realized that the puppy struggled with separation anxiety, making it difficult for him to leave the dog alone at home. “Bowie doesn’t like being left at home. Especially as a puppy. He has really bad separation anxiety,” Ferman said. “He’s so good in the car, it’s the one place he always behaves.”
Inspired by Bowie’s calm demeanor in the car, Ferman began bringing him along on rides. The decision turned out to be a hit with passengers, who quickly warmed to Bowie’s friendly presence. Ferman, eager to share these wholesome interactions, mounted a camera on his car’s roof to record the moments when riders entered the car.
After each ride, Ferman asks passengers for permission to share the footage on social media, where it is posted on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. While it took some time to gain traction, one particular episode marked a turning point. “Episode eight sat under 100 views for about a week. Then, overnight, it started getting tens of thousands of views and eventually hundreds of thousands,” Ferman recalled.
Among the many memorable encounters, Ferman fondly remembers a passenger named Phyllis, whose reaction to meeting Bowie was priceless. “Her face just lit up the second she saw this dog. She had a lot of quotable things to say, one of which was, ‘Dogs are so wonderful; you give them some food and water, and they’re just a trusted friend forever,'” Ferman said.
In addition to his newfound internet fame, Bowie is now competing in the America’s Favorite Pet contest, where people can vote for him. Ferman plans to use any prize money to further grow his content and support his channel.
