A two-year-old German Shepherd was found emaciated and shivering in the back of a truck, abandoned by its owner after his arrest. The vehicle had been left unattended on the side of the road for nearly a week following Brandon Thomas’s arrest, but he failed to inform authorities that his dog was inside.
After Thomas was apprehended in Boardman, Ohio, police were unaware of the German Shepherd’s presence in the truck. Days later, officers were inspecting the snow-covered vehicle when they heard desperate yelps coming from within. Upon realizing the dog’s distress, they broke a window to rescue the animal, who was severely dehydrated and malnourished.
The Animal Charity of Ohio, which is now caring for the dog, shared on social media that the animal was “extremely dehydrated, cold, and emaciated” after being trapped without food or water for days. The charity also revealed that the dog’s ribs were visible through its fur, highlighting the severity of the animal’s condition.
According to the Animal Charity of Ohio, the dog’s owner, Brandon Thomas, did not inform anyone about the animal’s situation. In fact, a household member of Thomas’s was reportedly unaware of the dog’s presence in the truck until a week after the arrest.
The disturbing case follows another incident in which a German Shepherd was found abandoned and cruelly tied with zip ties around its neck and mouth in Malibu Creek Canyon. The animal, identified as Argon, was discovered by hikers who rescued the dog and contacted authorities. Argon is now receiving medical care at Agoura Animal Center in Los Angeles County.
Fleur Dawes, Communications Director for In Defense of Animals, emphasized the importance of holding individuals accountable for such cruel acts, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Both incidents highlight ongoing concerns about animal neglect, with advocacy groups working to ensure the responsible parties face justice for the harm caused to these animals.
