A German shorthaired pointer, bred for the rigorous life of a working dog, has traded in her hunting instincts for a life of leisure—all thanks to the unwavering love of her 8-year-old owner.
Sadie, a German shorthaired pointer (GSP), comes from a long line of versatile hunting dogs, often referred to as “bird dogs” for their skill in tracking and retrieving game. But instead of chasing birds, Sadie spends her days indulging in spa treatments with her best friend, Caysley.
A video posted on Instagram (@sadie_and_ruger_thegsps) last month captured the heartwarming bond between the two. In the clip, Caysley is seen giving Sadie a full-on spa day, complete with a cheetah-print headband and a blue nail polish treatment. As Caysley carefully painted her nails, Sadie lifted her paw, fully embracing the pampering session. When the girl’s mother walked in on the scene, the dog shot her a look of mild disapproval, as if their luxurious moment had been rudely interrupted.
For Sadie, working life is a thing of the past—she’s a family member first and foremost, and her job is simply to be Caysley’s best friend.
A Bond From the Start
This spa day was no surprise to Sadie’s family, as the bond between the dog and her young owner has been unbreakable since the very beginning.
“We raised Sadie, and from the moment her eyes opened, she chose my daughter,” the mother told Newsweek via Instagram. “I remember my daughter sitting in the puppy pool when the puppies were just a few weeks old, and Sadie would always root her way to her.”
While other puppies played and explored, Sadie remained by Caysley’s side—and she never left. Today, she follows the girl everywhere, sleeps beside her every night, and joins the family on vacations. As long as she’s getting Caysley’s undivided attention, Sadie is happy—even if that means getting her nails painted.
Instagram’s Reaction
The video has captured the internet’s heart, amassing over 7.1 million views, 387,000 likes, and nearly 2,000 comments as of Wednesday.
“There’s nothing wrong with looking good when you’re hunting birds,” one viewer joked.
Another quipped, “The elegance level of this bird dog will be the envy of the whole hunt club.”
A third person imagined Sadie’s internal monologue: “I feel like my ancestors are super ashamed of me, but I really like this color, so…”
Some viewers expressed concern about using nail polish on a dog, but experts say pet-safe nail polishes—free from toxic chemicals like formaldehyde and toluene—are available and safe for use.
As for Sadie, she seems more than content with her new role—not as a hunter, but as Caysley’s loyal, pampered companion.
