Dog Rescued by Police After Getting Head Stuck in Treat Jar

by Lisa

A dog in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, found himself in a rather sticky situation when he got his head trapped inside a container while trying to reach a treat. The determined dog, named Murphy, attempted to get the last Milk-Bone from the jar but ended up unable to remove it.

Murphy’s owners spent over an hour trying unsuccessfully to free their pet before seeking assistance from the local police department. With the family veterinarian closed, they had no choice but to stop by the Whitefish Bay Police Station.

The police, understanding the urgency of the situation, responded quickly. Murphy’s predicament was made easier by the fact that the jar was plastic, allowing officers to carefully cut it off piece by piece. Officers Potthast and Streeter worked skillfully, eventually removing the rim of the jar to release Murphy.

A Facebook post by the Whitefish Bay Police Department highlighted the successful rescue, with the department playfully noting that the officers did a “paw-esome job” and that Murphy showed signs of relief once freed. Many commenters expressed sympathy for Murphy, urging his owners to give him extra treats after the ordeal.

The incident is not unique, as several dogs have been rescued from similar situations. One boxer had to be freed from a wheel after diving through it while chasing a chipmunk, and another dog in the U.S. needed help when a bowl became stuck on its head.

The case of Murphy’s rescue, though, raised some eyebrows, with many commenting that they’d never considered bringing a pet to the police station for such an issue. As one Facebook user put it, “Animals are like children—persistent in getting into trouble when they want something badly enough.”

For now, Murphy’s adventure has come to a happy end, with many hoping he received an extra serving of treats for his trouble.
