In a shocking incident, a dog was abandoned by a driver at a dead-end road in Surprise, Arizona. The act was caught on camera, revealing the driver tossing the malnourished puppy out of a red SUV and speeding off, leaving the animal to fend for itself in the desert.
Joanna Buesen, a neighbor who witnessed the incident, quickly took in the puppy and reported the matter. The dog, visibly malnourished with ribs showing, was cared for by Buesen and her own dog. “I was screaming,” Buesen said, describing her disbelief as the puppy was abandoned. The dog chased after the vehicle before it sped off.
The video captured by a neighboring home’s security camera shows the red, mid-size SUV pulling up to the edge of the desert. The driver tosses the dog out, and the dog runs toward the car as it speeds off. Buesen, visibly upset, remarked that the dog appeared defeated and sad after being abandoned. “Don’t be a soulless human,” she said to the driver.
The puppy, who was not microchipped, was taken to Surprise Animal Care and Control and will be available for adoption through the Arizona Humane Society. The Surprise Police Department is investigating the incident, and the video has already generated numerous tips from the community. The police have obtained the license plate information of the vehicle involved and are following up with leads.
Buesen urged people to take responsibility for their pets, advising that if someone cannot care for an animal, they should find a new home for it rather than abandoning it. “Don’t be an irresponsible human,” she said.
The puppy is now in the care of Surprise Animal Care and Control, and once cleared, he will be available for adoption.
