Penticton’s police service dog, Dug, is being spotlighted by the BC RCMP as part of a new series highlighting police dogs across the province. This initiative aims to recognize the work of service dogs and their handlers at different detachments.
Dug, who has been in service for a year and a half, works alongside his handler, Cpl. Jason Goodfellow. The duo has been actively involved in community events, including attending Penticton’s “Cram the Kennel” event in December 2024. Dug’s role extends beyond frontline duty to include specialized tasks like human remains detection.
In addition to his police work, Dug is a familiar face at local schools and other community gatherings, helping foster a strong bond between law enforcement and residents.
Dug’s profile reveals some fun facts about the pup: his favorite toy is a kong-on-a-rope, and his preferred activity is hiking the outdoors with his retired buddy, Harro. However, Dug isn’t particularly fond of bears or baths, adding a bit of personality to his otherwise professional demeanor.
As the first dog featured in this BC RCMP series, Dug is helping to shine a light on the important role that police dogs play in both the force and the community.
