A man has been charged with multiple offences following an incident in Poole where a police officer was bitten by a dog.
The incident occurred on Friday night when police responded to reports of suspicious activity involving a vehicle in the Cardigan Road area. As an officer approached a man who had exited the vehicle, the dog, which had been let off its lead, attacked the officer.
The animal, described as a Staffordshire bull terrier or bulldog-type dog, ran off after the incident and has not been located. Police stated that while the dog is not believed to pose a significant risk to the public, anyone who encounters an animal matching the description in the Talbot Park area is urged not to approach it and to contact authorities.
The officer sustained several puncture wounds and was treated at the scene.
Andre Harold Willis, 32, of South Norwood, London, was arrested on Saturday and charged with being in control of a dangerously out-of-control dog, wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, as well as driving while disqualified and without insurance.
Willis is scheduled to appear before Poole magistrates on Monday.
