Rigatoni, an 8-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, has been in foster care with Sharon and Al Pederson for more than a year, and they’ve witnessed his remarkable transformation. Initially weighing 113 pounds, Rigatoni is now down to 84 pounds thanks to the Pedersons’ commitment to his health. He still has a little more weight to shed, but his active lifestyle is a clear indication that he’s in great shape for his age.
Sharon Pederson, a volunteer with 4 Luv of Dog Rescue, took on the role of fostering Rigatoni after the dog was returned to the shelter. Previously, Rigatoni had been fostered with a family that had small dogs, but due to some issues, he had to go back. Despite taking a break from fostering, Sharon and Al decided to give Rigatoni a chance because they preferred bigger dogs.
Since then, Rigatoni has become a beloved part of their family. He enjoys his daily walks and has proven to be a friendly, well-behaved companion. Sharon notes that, while Rigatoni’s age shows in his gray muzzle, he’s still quite active and enjoys playtime with his KONG toy and snuggling on the couch. Despite not knowing much about his past, his personality has really started to shine through as he’s shed weight and become more comfortable in his foster home.
Though Rigatoni has received some interest from potential adopters, Sharon feels that he’d make a great companion for someone with prior dog experience, particularly if they have a fenced yard. She’s hoping that with more exposure at 4 Luv of Dog Rescue events, the right family will recognize what a wonderful dog he is.
With a calm demeanor and a loving personality, Rigatoni is ready for his forever home. He’s available for adoption and would thrive with a family who appreciates the companionship of a senior dog.
