by Lisa

In an unexpected turn of events, a couple in the United States found themselves resorting to an unusual form of money laundering after their pet dog, Cecil, devoured a substantial amount of cash.

Carrie Law, Cecil’s owner, took to Instagram to share the misadventure, posting a reel that garnered over 178,000 likes. The caption read, “This is Cecil. He has never done anything bad in his life until he ate $4,000.” Accompanying the caption were images showcasing Cecil and the consumed money.

Cecil, a seven-year-old goldendoodle, managed to ingest $4,000 in cash that belonged to his owners, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton and Carrie Law. The incident unfolded in Pennsylvania in December 2023, shortly after the couple brought the money home and left it on their kitchen counter. Cecil’s remarkable feat occurred within half an hour of the cash’s arrival, reported the Pittsburgh City Paper.

Mrs. Law, 33, expressed her disbelief, stating, “I almost had a heart attack,” while her husband, 34, was the one to discover Cecil’s costly snack. The couple promptly sought advice from their vet, who suggested monitoring Cecil at home due to his size.

The Laws faced the daunting task of cleaning and reconstructing the remnants of the digested bills. Fortunately, the bank assured them that damaged bills with visible serial numbers would be accepted. Despite the unpleasant process, involving washing the money retrieved from Cecil’s fecal matter, the couple managed to recover nearly all of the money, losing only $450 in the process.

Cecil has since been forgiven by his owners, who humorously described him as a “very fancy fellow” with “very expensive taste.” Mrs. Law jokingly reflected on the experience, stating, “I never thought I’d be able to say I’ve laundered money, but there is apparently a first time for everything.”
