An Amazon delivery driver has been dismissed from their position after allegedly attempting to steal a customer’s dog, sparking outrage and concern among residents of Henry County, Georgia.
Terrika Currence recounted the shocking incident to WSB-TV, describing how her routine retrieval of a delivered package turned into a harrowing encounter when she discovered her beloved pet missing from her front yard.
“As I opened the door to bring the package inside along with the dog food, my daughter screamed and said, ‘The Amazon guy stole our puppy,'” Currence explained, detailing the alarming moment when she realized what had transpired.
Confronting the driver, Currence captured the tense exchange on camera as she approached the delivery van and filmed its interior. In the footage, the dog is seen calmly exiting the vehicle, prompting further questions about the driver’s actions.
According to Currence, the driver purportedly expressed admiration for the dog’s appearance, suggesting a desire to keep it for himself. “The dog was pretty and that he would love to have a puppy,” she recalled the driver’s explanation.
Following the unsettling ordeal, Currence expressed deep concern for her daughter’s wellbeing, noting that the incident had instilled fear in her regarding the safety of their pet whenever a delivery driver approached their home.
In response to inquiries, an Amazon spokesperson issued a statement to Channel 2 Action News, expressing regret for the incident and confirming that the driver involved had been relieved of their duties. “We’ve apologized to the customer and are relieved that their dog was returned unharmed,” the spokesperson stated. “The driver involved is no longer delivering for Amazon, and we’ve reached out to law enforcement to assist as they investigate.”
Despite the driver’s dismissal, Currence remains apprehensive about the potential for similar incidents in the future, expressing doubt about the individual’s character and suggesting a propensity for repeat offenses. “He’ll do it again,” she remarked, emphasizing lingering concerns over the safety and security of pets in delivery situations.
