Television host Jon Stewart, 61, shared a heartfelt tribute on Monday’s episode of “The Daily Show” as he announced the passing of his family’s loyal canine companion, Dipper. Stewart, visibly emotional, revealed that Dipper, whom the family had adopted over a decade ago, had passed away over the weekend.
“Dipper passed away yesterday,” Stewart said, choking up on the show. “He was ready. He was tired, but I wasn’t.”
Stewart recounted the story of how Dipper became a part of their family. The canine entered their lives when Stewart, along with his children Maggie Rose, 18, and Nathan Thomas, 19, participated in a fundraiser for the New York City animal shelter Animal Haven. The family had baked cupcakes for the shelter, and as an incentive, they were introduced to Dipper, a one-year-old brindle pit bull who had lost a leg after being hit by a car in Brooklyn.
Reflecting on the joy Dipper brought to their lives, Stewart shared that the pup became an integral part of the “OG Daily Show dog crew.” He humorously recalled how Dipper would patiently wait for him to finish taping, interacting with various celebrities who visited the show, even managing to surprise Malala Yousafzai.
Stewart ended the show with a tearful smile, expressing his wish for everyone to find that one special dog in their lives. The episode concluded with a touching clip of Dipper, the three-legged pup, playing energetically in the snow, bringing joy to Stewart and leaving a lasting impression on “The Daily Show” legacy.
