In a recent interview with the We Rate Dogs YouTube channel, actress Jennifer Garner, 51, opened up about her family’s amusing choice of names for their various pets. Garner, known for her roles in Family Switch and The Last Thing He Told Me, disclosed the unconventional names of her furry companions during the chat.
The celebrity’s eclectic collection includes a dog named Birdie, a cat named Moose, another dog named Kitty, and a puppy named Bugs. When asked by Matt Nelson, the founder of the channel, if the names were “intentionally confusing,” Garner responded with a laugh, confirming, “Yes.”
During the interview at Los Angeles’ Wallis Annenberg PetSpace, Garner introduced her eight-year-old golden retriever, Birdie. She shared the amusing story of how Birdie became part of the family, revealing that her eldest daughter, Violet, now 18, insisted on having her own dog at the age of 2. Despite assuming Violet would forget, the family now includes Birdie, and Garner humorously admitted, “She did not forget.”
Garner, who shares children Violet, Seraphina (15), and Samuel (12) with ex-husband Ben Affleck, also celebrated Birdie’s recent accomplishment. The golden retriever received a “promotion” to serve as a therapy dog at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
In the emotional interview, Garner reminisced about her late dog Martha Stewart, a white Labrador given to her as a gift after wrapping the 2004 rom-com 13 Going on 30. She jokingly revealed using Martha Stewart, the dog, as a “bribe” to secure a spot on the real Martha Stewart’s cooking show.
Despite the light-hearted moments, Garner expressed genuine affection for her pets, emphasizing Martha Stewart’s enduring place in her heart as “the goodest good girl that ever lived.” The interview concluded with a playful suggestion that if Martha Stewart, the lifestyle icon, gets a dog, it should be named Jennifer Garner.
The actress responded in good humor, “I didn’t want to have to be the one to say it. But it is now on the record. Called out!”
