BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Street Dog Hero, a Bend-based organization, has set a remarkable record by organizing a spay/neuter clinic in Kanasìn, Mexico, in collaboration with Beach Dog Rescue and Ester y Liza. The clinic, which recently took place, saw the successful spaying and neutering of 895 dogs and cats, marking a new milestone for the organization.
The significance of this achievement extends beyond the immediate impact, as studies by the North Shore Animal League of America suggest that spaying and neutering one male and one female can prevent over 67,000 births in just six years. With 895 animals undergoing these procedures, the Bend-based organization has potentially prevented almost 67 million births, sparing these animals from potential suffering, sickness, starvation, and the dangers of street life.
Street Dog Hero’s success in this spay/neuter clinic, the most productive to date, was made possible through the generosity and support of its dedicated followers and donors. Despite the $23 cost per spay/neuter surgery, the organization provided these essential procedures either for free or at a low cost for the community.
For over six years, Street Dog Hero has been committed to its mission of tackling animal overpopulation by conducting spaying and neutering procedures for both owned and street dogs and cats globally. The organization has already delivered over 8,185 free or reduced-rate spay/neuter surgeries and other wellness services in Mexico and locally. Additionally, they have rescued more than 3,360 dogs from various countries, finding them forever homes.
Street Dog Hero envisions a world where all dogs are healthy, safe, cared for, and wanted. Through their impactful work, the organization is bringing about positive, lasting changes in the lives of animals and their human counterparts, striving for a future where every dog is valued and loved.
