Volunteers from Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue sprang into action after receiving multiple reports of a dog trapped in a ditch at Thorpe Park holiday resort, only to discover it was a 2ft tall ornamental statue of a Spaniel.
The rescue team responded swiftly to the calls on Saturday night (March 2), coordinating with the Charlie’s Angels Lost and Found Pets volunteers about a rescue plan. Despite the good intentions behind the reports, the team found the “stricken pup” to be a statue that had already been rescued by on-site staff.
A spokesperson from the charity expressed gratitude to those who reported the incident and commended their water rescue volunteers for their immediate response, being on the scene and ready to act in less than 20 minutes.
Local residents praised the charity for its quick and dedicated response, even though the call turned out to be a false alarm. One resident noted the realistic appearance of the statue in the original photo and commended the person who reported it. Another resident humorously inquired about purchasing the cute statue.
Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue, known for its rehabilitation efforts for injured wildlife, continues to raise funds to support their mission of aiding animals in need.
