A golden retriever, saved from peril in an Isle of Man harbor by its vigilant canine companion, has been dubbed “one very lucky dog” by the coastguard.
The rescue unfolded when a passerby, alerted by the distressed Newfoundland, spotted the golden retriever struggling near The Tongue in Douglas inner harbor around 08:30 GMT on Sunday. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the individual quickly called for the coastguard’s assistance and took action.
Climbing onto a nearby boat, the passerby managed to reach the struggling dog and provide support until the coastguard crew arrived. The coastguard promptly hoisted the dog to safety, with officials praising the swift and decisive actions of the concerned citizen.
According to a spokesperson for Douglas Coastguard, the passerby’s intervention undeniably saved the dog’s life. Upon receiving the call, the coastguard swiftly responded to the scene, where they found the golden retriever drifting with the current and at risk of submersion.
The coastguard emphasized the critical role played by the passerby, whose prompt response prevented a potentially tragic outcome. Once the rescued dog was safely ashore, coastguard personnel facilitated a heartwarming reunion with its loyal companion at the station.
Expressing gratitude for the passerby’s heroic efforts, the coastguard underscored the significance of their actions in saving the fortunate canine. Subsequently, thanks to an appeal on social media by the Isle of Man Constabulary, the owner of the courageous canine pair was successfully located and notified.
