A new 70-acre off-leash dog park is set to debut at the U.S. National Whitewater Center on Saturday, March 30, marking a significant development for dog owners in the area.
The opening of this expansive dog park is noteworthy as it provides an exclusive space for dogs to freely roam within the 1,300-acre Whitewater Center. Previously, dogs were required to be leashed, but now, all breeds and sizes can enjoy their own designated area.
For those planning to visit, the dog park offers various amenities, including access to a lake and beach with a dock. The main building, known as the Barley House, spans 2,480 square feet and serves as the central hub for purchasing passes, checking in, enjoying refreshments, and purchasing treats or toys for dogs.
Additionally, visitors can take advantage of the 1,100-square-foot covered pavilion equipped with picnic tables, bathrooms, and a 1.5-mile loop called Lake Loop. While biking is not permitted within the dog park, a separate 2.5-mile loop, Dog Leg, is available just outside the perimeter.
Other facilities within the dog park include a dog wash station, a water trough, and a smaller area available for rent for doggy birthday parties. The park will operate from 9 am to 8 pm during its opening weekend.
In terms of pricing, a day pass for a dog costs $10, while an unlimited month pass is priced at $20. Dogs are also covered under a regular annual Whitewater Center pass, which recently saw a reduction in price to $149. Adding an extra dog to an annual pass incurs a fee of $50 per dog.
Parking arrangements involve a dedicated lot with a capacity for 100 cars, accessible via a gravel road off the main parking area. Daily parking costs $12, while an annual pass is available for $40.
The dog park comes with specific regulations aimed at ensuring safety for both humans and dogs. These rules include keeping dogs on-leash in the parking lot until entering the designated off-leash area, a limit of three dogs per person, and adherence to vaccination requirements and behavioral standards.
Overall, the addition of the off-leash dog park enhances the appeal of the Whitewater Center, a popular destination that attracted 1.2 million visitors in 2023. Located at 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy, the center offers a range of activities, including whitewater rafting, free yoga sessions, and dining options.
