A police dog named Enzo is in stable condition after sustaining multiple stab wounds during a response to a barricade situation in Las Vegas. Enzo, a member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), was airlifted to a veterinary trauma hospital for surgery following the incident.
The ordeal unfolded on Friday in the 1200 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard when LVMPD officers, accompanied by Enzo, responded to reports of a barricaded individual described as “suicidal.” According to LVMPD, the subject, armed with a knife, refused to leave an apartment and initiated a fire, prompting the incident to be categorized as a barricade situation.
As a SWAT team intervened, the individual emerged from the building wielding a knife, prompting officers to deploy less-lethal measures, including Enzo. Despite the canine’s attempts to subdue the individual, he managed to stab Enzo multiple times before being apprehended by officers.
Enzo was promptly transported to a local veterinary hospital and subsequently airlifted to a specialized veterinary trauma facility. LVMPD provided updates on Enzo’s condition via social media, confirming that the nearly 3-year-old Belgian Malinois is in stable condition and is expected to recover.
Images shared by the police department depict Enzo lying on a surgical table, wearing a soft muzzle, while receiving medical attention from veterinary personnel.
Meanwhile, the individual responsible for the stabbing, who also sustained self-inflicted stab wounds, is in critical but stable condition at the UMC Trauma Center, according to police reports.
Enzo has been serving with the LVMPD for approximately a year, demonstrating his dedication to law enforcement duties.
