A shocking incident captured on video has stirred outrage online, as it depicts an individual setting fire to a stray dog in Selangor, Malaysia. The distressing footage, which has since gone viral, shows the canine engulfed in flames before being callously kicked off what appears to be a bridge.
The originator (OP) of the viral video has alleged that the perpetrator is a local boy and has identified the location of the incident as Carey Island. Condemning the “dastardly and cruel act,” they have vowed to report the matter to the authorities.
In response to the abhorrent act, Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB), a dog welfare group, has offered a RM2,000 (S$568) reward for any information leading to the identification of the culprit.
The footage, shared on MDDB’s Facebook page on Thursday (4 April), begins with the perpetrator brandishing a lighter near a poodle lying on the ground. Igniting the flame, they set fire to the dog’s fur, with its mouth reportedly tied at the time. The dog, initially unaware of its plight, eventually realizes and frantically attempts to extinguish the flames, emitting distressing cries of pain.
Subsequently, the injured animal runs across a field before collapsing, whereupon the individual filming waits for the fire to subside. Once the flames have dwindled, the dog rises to its feet and makes its way towards the edge of a nearby bridge, only to be heartlessly kicked off by the perpetrator.
MDDB has confirmed that the incident occurred on Carey Island and is appealing to the public for any information regarding the identity of the perpetrator, believed to be a local resident. The reward offered by the welfare group underscores the severity of the matter and the urgent need for accountability.
