Firestone’s Kitchen, located in the 6800 block of Peach Street and renowned for its open-fire cooking, recently made a different kind of impact by donating over 60 pounds of beef marrow bones to the ANNA Shelter, delighting the shelter’s furry residents.
Chef and partner Martin Firestone explained that roasted bone marrow, a popular dish at the restaurant, led to an excess of bones. Regular patrons Nicole and PJ noticed this and inquired about the fate of the bones. Inspired by their concern, the restaurant decided to collect and donate two weeks’ worth of bones to the shelter.
Megan Ott, server and social media manager at Firestone’s Kitchen, recounted the decision-making process behind the donation, highlighting the collaborative effort of the team.
ANNA Shelter director and founder Ruth Thompson expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that it offers a unique form of enrichment for the shelter dogs. While the shelter typically relies on toys filled with peanut butter for stimulation, the real bones provide a different sensory experience.
Thompson emphasized the positive impact of community support, stating that it benefits everyone involved. Ott echoed this sentiment, expressing admiration for the shelter’s work.
Firestone and Ott both expressed joy in witnessing the dogs’ enjoyment of the donated bones, affirming their commitment to continue such donations in the future by setting aside bones for further contributions.
