A dog discovered entangled in duct tape inside a dumpster was rescued by the Nebraska Humane Society earlier this week.
The Omaha accounting firm Sweets & Associates reported hearing noises from the dumpster on Sunday evening, initially mistaking it for a raccoon. However, upon investigation the following day, they found the distressed dog inside. The dog, named Leo, was in a dire state, with his fur covered in food and dirt, and duct tape wrapped around his head, legs, and tail.
Kevin Wiederin, a staff member at Sweets & Associates, described the shocking discovery, stating, “I have never seen anything like it.”
Leo was rescued just minutes before the garbage collection was scheduled and rushed to the humane society. There, shelter employees sedated him and carefully cleaned him to remove the debris. Despite some skin irritation, Leo was said to be in good spirits after waking up.
The dog’s owner, Erin Pasillas, had reported Leo missing on April 11. Thanks to a microchip, the humane society was able to reunite Leo with his owner.
Pasillas expressed her shock and dismay at the situation, stating, “He’s the sweetest dog! I don’t know why anyone would do this.”
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Omaha Animal Control. In an effort to find the perpetrator, the humane society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
