A woman in Michigan faces the risk of losing her arm after being seriously injured in a dog attack at her home. Norton Shores Professional Firefighters responded to the incident on Monday, as reported in a social media post.
According to Norton Shores Fire Chief Bob Gagnon, the call came in around 9:30 a.m. after a passerby witnessed the attack. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found the victim being attacked by two dogs in her front yard. The dogs were aggressive towards responders, complicating efforts to extract the victim from their grasp.
Despite the challenges, responders were able to separate the dogs from the victim, who suffered extensive injuries to her arm and was semi-conscious. Chief Gagnon expressed concerns about the severity of the injuries, indicating that saving the arm may not be possible. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently hospitalized.
The attack occurred after the victim’s son brought home a Rottweiler he had found chained outside his workplace. The dog, believed to have been abandoned, turned aggressive and attacked the victim. The other dog involved, also a Rottweiler and owned by the victim, did not participate in the attack. Both dogs were taken in by Pound Buddies, with one ultimately being euthanized due to safety concerns.
Describing the incident as one of the worst dog attacks he has witnessed in his firefighting career, Chief Gagnon emphasized the emotional toll it will likely have on the victim’s family and responders alike. The son was not present during the attack, and authorities have not yet made contact with him regarding the incident.
