Colin Williams, aged 46, hailing from Blackwood, has confessed to a series of offenses, including acts of animal cruelty towards British and French bulldogs, as well as a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Rosie. His plea encompassed charges of breeding dogs without a license and causing unnecessary suffering. Additionally, Williams acknowledged engaging in unfair trading by advertising four litters of puppies for sale on online platforms like Gumtree and Freeads.
These transgressions occurred between May 25, 2021, and June 12, 2023, within the Fleur-de-Lys area of Blackwood, as disclosed during proceedings at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
In parallel, Ruth Williams, aged 51 and also from Blackwood, admitted to analogous offenses.
During the mitigation phase, legal representatives for both defendants advocated for recognition of their clients’ guilty pleas.
Colin Williams received a custodial sentence of 16 weeks and was subjected to a lifelong prohibition from owning or keeping animals. Ruth Williams, on the other hand, was sentenced to eight weeks’ imprisonment, albeit suspended for 18 months, with the court considering an “element of coercion” in her case. Furthermore, she was subjected to a ten-year ban on animal ownership.
Residing on Glanddu Road, Fleur-de-Lys, the defendants were additionally directed to pay £6,099 each in costs and a surcharge.
