When Peter, a stray dog, was taken in by the team at Dogs Trust Kenilworth, they initially believed him to be an elderly dog. Suffering from a skin condition causing flakiness and dryness, he resembled a mature Patterdale Terrier. However, confusion arose when his behavior appeared more puppy-like, and further examination revealed he still possessed all his puppy teeth. It was then realized that Peter was, in fact, a lurcher puppy, no more than four months old.
Now 18 months old, Peter has blossomed into a confident and affectionate young dog, seeking his forever home. Although there is no cure for his skin condition, known as Ichthyosis or Fish Scale disease, it can be managed with medicated shampoos and does not significantly impact his daily life.
Emma-Jane Thomas, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Kenilworth, expressed the team’s astonishment at Peter’s transformation and likened him to a canine Benjamin Button. Despite his challenging start in life, Peter has thrived in the care of the center, displaying typical puppy traits while making remarkable progress.
Peter is seeking a home with children over the age of 12 who are comfortable with energetic dogs, and he would thrive as the only pet in the household. Despite this, he has formed bonds with other dogs at Dogs Trust and could continue to do so with proper guidance. Peter enjoys playing with toys and cherishes the companionship of his favorite humans, indicating a preference for a home where he won’t be left alone for extended periods, allowing him to learn to settle and relax at his own pace.
