From a balcony overlooking the famous Piotrkowska Street, Buba has captivated both locals and tourists by tossing her ball to passers-by, who eagerly toss it back to her, keeping the playful exchange alive.
The spontaneous game was entirely Buba’s idea, according to her owner, Agnieszka. What began as a happy accident quickly blossomed into a beloved ritual. “She threw the ball off the balcony once by accident, someone threw it back, and it just continued from there,” Agnieszka shared with TVP, Poland’s state broadcaster. The game can last for hours, much to the delight of those who find themselves on Piotrkowska Street.
A video capturing Buba’s antics surfaced online earlier this month, swiftly garnering millions of views and propelling the dog to internet fame. The clip shows Buba repeatedly dropping her ball from the balcony to the street below, where it is promptly returned by amused pedestrians. The scene has resonated with viewers worldwide, leading to extensive media coverage.
Paweł Śpiechowicz, a spokesperson for Łódź city hall, remarked on the phenomenon, saying, “Once again, the rule is proven that if someone is looking for good fun in Łódź, all they have to do is come to Piotrkowska Street.”
Buba’s newfound fame has transformed her into a local celebrity. According to the regional newspaper Kurier Poranny, people are now traveling from distant parts of the country just to catch a glimpse of her and perhaps participate in the impromptu game. TikTok users continue to share videos of Buba enthusiastically engaging with the crowd, further solidifying her status as a tourist attraction.
Małgorzata Kołodziejczak, a representative from the city’s dog shelter, offered insight into Buba’s behavior. “For many dogs, fetching a ball is an opportunity to display natural behavior while enjoying human interaction,” she explained to TVN, a national broadcaster. “For Buba, it’s all about fun. Every dog loves to be the center of attention, especially when they feel loved and trusted.”
