As National Service Dog Awareness Month kicks off, Eukanuba™ has announced a new campaign to support Canine Companions®, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to providing service dogs to individuals with disabilities. The campaign, titled “Feed Eukanuba, Fuel Independence,” aims to increase the number of service dogs available to those in need.
Celebrating National Service Dog Awareness Month
Since 2008, September has been dedicated to National Service Dog Awareness Month. This month-long observance highlights the essential role of service dogs in enhancing the independence and quality of life for people with disabilities. Service dogs are trained to perform a variety of tasks, including pulling wheelchairs, operating light switches, opening doors, and retrieving dropped items. Their assistance helps individuals lead more confident and self-sufficient lives.
Eukanuba and Canine Companions Partner for a Greater Impact
Eukanuba, a leader in high-performance nutrition for service, sporting, and working dogs, has partnered with Canine Companions, a nonprofit organization that has been providing trained service dogs free of charge for nearly 50 years. The partnership is marked by the launch of the “Feed Eukanuba, Fuel Independence” campaign, which runs from September 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024.
During this period, Eukanuba will donate $20 for each bag of Eukanuba Dry Dog Food (28lbs and larger) purchased at participating retailers to Canine Companions. The campaign aims to raise funds to support the training and placement of service dogs, addressing the gap in availability for people with disabilities.
The Need for Service Dogs
Despite the significant benefits service dogs provide, only a small fraction of individuals with disabilities currently have access to these invaluable companions. The demand for trained service dogs remains high, and Eukanuba’s initiative seeks to increase the number of dogs raised, trained, and placed with those in need.
