Fort St. John RCMP Backs 4th Annual ‘Ned’s Wish Heroes Run’ to Honor Fallen Police Dog

by Lisa

The Fort St. John RCMP have pledged their support for the fourth edition of the Ned’s Wish Heroes Run, scheduled for October 5, 2024. This annual event aims to raise funds for Ned’s Wish, a Canadian charity dedicated to improving the lives of retired police and military dogs through financial support for education and medical needs.

This year’s run will pay tribute to Police Service Dog ‘Bingo’ from the Toronto Police Service. On July 25, 2023, Bingo was tragically killed while assisting in the apprehension of a murder suspect. His courageous actions are credited with saving the lives of the officers involved in the operation.

Corporal Dan Cloutier from the Fort St. John Police Dog Service Unit noted his personal connection to Ned’s Wish, sharing that his first police dog, Dirks Regimental #936, benefited from the charity, which helped extend Dirks’ life during retirement.

“Needless to say, I’m a strong advocate for this cause. My wife and I have supported Ned’s Wish for several years,” Cloutier remarked.
