Tompkins County health authorities are seeking assistance to address a recent dog bite incident that occurred late Saturday night. The Environmental Health Division is working to confirm the vaccination status of the involved dog to determine if rabies treatment is necessary for the bite victim.
The incident took place around 11 p.m. on September 21, 2024, at the intersection of East State Street and North Cayuga Street, near the Cornell Store on the Commons. According to reports, the dog, which was described as a medium to large-sized black animal, was in an unattended black SUV with the window rolled down. The bite occurred when a pedestrian reached through the open window to pet the dog.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the dog’s vaccination status or the incident to contact Environmental Health at 607-274-6688.
In addition to this case, health officials are also investigating a separate dog bite incident that occurred last Tuesday in the 900 block of North Cayuga Street.
