A heroic 13-year-old rescue dog named Gita played a crucial role in saving her 84-year-old owner after guiding deputies to his location in Washington state. The remarkable incident unfolded on September 25 when Deputy Wright of the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling a rural area surrounded by woods.
During his patrol, Deputy Wright encountered Gita sitting alone in the middle of the road, far from any homes or people. Despite attempts to coax her into his vehicle so he could locate her owner, Gita refused to enter. Consequently, Wright searched the nearby residences within a mile radius but found no one who claimed the dog.
Suspicious of the situation, Deputy Wright returned to Gita, who was now lying in the center of the road. When he tried to move her from the roadway, she darted off down a little-traveled, unmarked road. Deputy Wright followed, and Gita led him to a small summer cabin.
Once at the cabin, Wright began to investigate the area and soon discovered the elderly man lying on the ground nearby, calling for help. The 84-year-old man, who required regular medication due to other medical conditions, had fallen and injured his leg. He had been stranded on the ground for several hours and could have faced dire consequences if he had not been found.
Authorities praised Gita’s loyalty, confirming that she is indeed the best friend of the man in distress. “We credit Gita for saving his life that day. The loyalty and heroism of our furry friends never cease to amaze us,” stated the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office.
This touching story highlights the incredible bond between pets and their owners, showcasing how Gita’s actions not only demonstrated her loyalty but also saved a life.
