As Hurricane Milton approached Florida, a state trooper took swift action to save a dog abandoned on the side of Interstate 75. The incident was captured on video, showing the trooper pulling over to rescue the small white bull terrier, which was found half-submerged in brackish water.
In the footage, the officer reassures the distressed dog, saying, “It’s okay buddy,” while approaching it. The dog responded by barking but soon calmed down in the presence of the officer.
The Florida Highway Patrol took to social media to urge residents not to leave their pets behind during such dangerous storms, emphasizing the cruelty of abandoning animals. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis echoed this sentiment on X, stating, “It is cruel for anyone to leave a dog tied to a post in the middle of an oncoming storm,” and assured that the state would hold accountable those who mistreat animals.
Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key as a Category 3 storm, bringing sustained winds of 193 km/h and significant risks to the area.
