A woman is recovering after an alleged dog attack in Caboolture, where she was reportedly assaulted by an unregistered Staffordshire terrier. The incident has raised concerns within the local community, leading to the dog’s seizure by the City of Moreton Bay.
Lee-Anne Shaw, 58, was out walking her dachshund on Sunday morning when the attack occurred. According to Shaw, the dog, named Loki, leapt over a fence and knocked her to the ground.
“It jumped the fence and knocked me straight down,” Shaw recounted from her hospital bed at Redcliffe Hospital. “While I was on the ground, it kept jumping on me and trying to attack my sausage dog. My dog was just inches away from being ripped in half.”
A passerby intervened during the incident, helping Shaw to her feet as Loki fled the scene. Shaw sustained scrapes and bruises from the encounter and sought medical attention to rule out any internal injuries, given her ongoing pain. She has since been discharged from the hospital.
Fortunately, Shaw’s dachshund emerged from the incident unscathed. In response to the attack, the local council seized Loki, deeming the dog potentially dangerous due to its unregistered status.
Loki’s owner, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed his disbelief over the allegations, asserting that the dog poses no threat. “I don’t think he is [dangerous]. He listens and behaves well,” he stated. “He just doesn’t react well to other dogs when they approach through the fence.”
The City of Moreton Bay is currently assessing the situation and determining the future of the dog involved in the attack.
