Townsville families can now enjoy an upgraded outdoor space at the newly revitalized Riverside Green Park in Douglas.
The park’s renewal project, which began in June, introduced a variety of new features, including a modern playground, shaded areas, picnic shelters, and barbecue facilities. The project also included landscape improvements and drainage work. To make room for the enhanced playground, the small dog off-leash area was relocated, and new shade shelters and an updated entry point to the main dog park were added.
Divisional Councillor Suzy Batkovic announced the completion of the project’s first phase, welcoming families to explore the refreshed amenities.
“Riverside Green is a cherished open space, which is why the Council invested $1.085 million into upgrading the playground and its facilities,” Cr Batkovic said. “The final addition will be an inclusive seat on the five-bay swing, which will be installed in the coming weeks.”
Cr Batkovic shared that residents have already provided positive feedback, praising the playground, dog park, and other amenities. “This will be a fantastic spot for all residents to stay active and enjoy the outdoors,” she added.
For residents seeking more outdoor options, Cr Batkovic highlighted the “Popular Parks and Playgrounds” resource available through the Council to find parks nearby.
Local mother Paris Shaw expressed her appreciation for the high-quality parks now available throughout Townsville. “My two-year-old daughter Poppy is full of energy, so we love visiting local parks for outdoor fun,” Shaw said. “As both a teacher and a mother, I understand the importance of outdoor play, and I’m glad to see Riverside Green include accessible equipment for children of all abilities.”
The park’s renewal is part of a broader effort to provide safe, enjoyable outdoor spaces for families and pets across the community.
