In a remarkable act of bravery, Kacey Musgraves’ Blue Heeler, Pepper, saved the country star from stepping on a rattlesnake while she was barefoot on her porch. Musgraves shared the harrowing experience on Instagram, stating, “Brave dogs that save you from stepping on a rattlesnake you didn’t see on your back porch.”
While Pepper managed to protect her owner, she sustained bruises on her neck from the snake bite. In a series of posts, Musgraves recounted the incident, humorously noting, “Copperhead: 1, Pepper: 0,” later correcting her mistake to identify the snake as a timber rattlesnake.
After the incident, Musgraves promptly took Pepper to the veterinarian for treatment. Fortunately, Pepper received the necessary care and was sent home to recover.
As a reminder of the dangers of snake bites, experts advise pet owners on essential steps to take if their dog is bitten. Snake bites can lead to serious infections, so it’s crucial to consult a veterinarian immediately, even if the snake is non-venomous. It’s recommended to take a photo or note the markings of the snake for identification if possible.
