Brimbank City Council is inviting local residents to provide input on future improvements at the Sydenham Basin Reserve dog off-leash area. A draft concept plan has been developed with the goal of creating a safe, enjoyable space for both dogs and their owners, while also enhancing the park’s natural beauty and biodiversity.
The proposed upgrades include partial fencing for safety, a circular path with sensory sniff stops for dogs, shaded shelters for comfort, distinct active and calm zones featuring a variety of plants, and seating areas for owners to relax and watch their pets. A drinking water fountain is also part of the plan.
While the council is enthusiastic about these ideas, the proposed changes are subject to approval from Melbourne Water due to the site’s status as a retarding basin, meaning modifications may occur.
Residents can share their thoughts by attending a listening post event at the park on Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., or by submitting feedback online. The consultation period will close on Friday, November 29.
The council also encourages children to participate in the process, with parents and carers invited to assist in submitting their feedback.
