Queensland’s beloved border collie, Ash Barky, known for her role in the ABC series Muster Dogs, has embarked on a new chapter as a mother, welcoming two male puppies, Racquet and Boots, into the world.
Ash, who captured hearts alongside her owner, North Burnett grazier Cilla Pershouse, during season two of the popular show, gave birth last week. The duo’s remarkable bond and vibrant energy have made them fan favorites, and Ash’s latest milestone is no exception.
The two pups were introduced to the world nestled in a cozy bed of hay. At just seven days old, their rapid growth has already been noted.
“They’re thriving, and Ash is truly enjoying her new role as a mum,” Ms. Pershouse said. “They’ve already more than doubled their birth weight.”
Ash’s journey from a playful pup on Muster Dogs to a nurturing mother is heartwarming. Her new family addition has a high-profile pedigree, with the father, Melnunni Duncan, holding titles from multiple working dog competitions.
“Duncan is as high-profile as Ash, and with just two pups in this litter, they’re already a treasured part of the family,” Ms. Pershouse shared.
The pups, Racquet and Boots, are destined to follow in their parents’ pawprints as working dogs on the farm.
“They’ll begin their training when the time is right,” Ms. Pershouse said. “We’re excited to see them grow into beautiful, skilled stock dogs.”
This latest chapter adds to Ash Barky’s growing legacy. Ms. Pershouse has often credited the now two-and-a-half-year-old dog with helping her overcome feelings of isolation after the birth of her third child.
“Training Ash propelled me forward,” she said in an earlier interview. “Together, we’ve achieved so many wonderful things.”
From working on the farm to gracing the Logies stage in August, Ash has become a symbol of resilience and connection. Fans of the series can catch up with her and other stars of Muster Dogs in the upcoming Where Are They Now special, airing on December 1.
“She’s blossomed into an amazing all-around working dog and continues to make an incredible impact on our lives,” Ms. Pershouse said.
Ash’s story continues to inspire, proving that the bond between a farmer and their dog is truly extraordinary.
