In a heartwarming tale of loyalty and compassion, a dog in Jiangxi Province, China, has been rescued after spending two years beside her deceased owner’s grave. The dog, named Zhongbao, had been living in isolation, suffering from a skin disease and a crippled leg, yet remained steadfast in her devotion to the woman who had passed away.
In 2022, the dog was found by a local influencer and stray dog rescuer, @ganpojiege, who, with the help of villagers, learned that Zhongbao had been staying by her owner’s grave ever since her death. Despite several attempts by villagers to adopt her, the dog repeatedly returned to the grave. She had made it her home and would occasionally venture down to the village for food.
After encountering the dog, the rescuer enticed her with sausages, gaining her trust. He then took her to his rescue center, where he treated her serious skin condition. Naming her Zhongbao, meaning “Loyal Baby,” he promised to regularly take her back to visit her former owner’s grave.
Over the next few months, Zhongbao’s health improved significantly. However, her skin disease relapsed, requiring additional treatment at a hospital in Shanghai, where she was fully cured after another two months.
In a recent update, Zhongbao appeared to have transformed into a healthy, vibrant dog with smooth fur. The rescuer kept his promise and continued to take Zhongbao on regular visits to her late owner’s grave, a gesture that has touched many people online, with one observer commenting, “I was moved to tears by Zhongbao’s loyalty to her owner.”
This heartwarming story highlights not only the incredible loyalty of dogs but also the growing pet culture in China, where pets are increasingly viewed as beloved family members.
