Students at a local school went above and beyond to celebrate the birthday of their beloved therapy dog, Cole, who has been a key part of their community for nearly seven years. Known for his gentle spirit and unique role as a therapy dog, Cole received a heartwarming birthday celebration organized by the students to show their appreciation.
“This tradition has been going on every year since Cole became part of our school,” said Chris Hannah, Cole’s owner and self-proclaimed “dad.” “Even during the pandemic, we didn’t let distance stop us from celebrating with virtual parties.”
This year, Cole’s birthday festivities included a special carriage ride and a birthday outfit, with a select group of students chosen to push his carriage into the cafeteria. But the real surprise came when the students performed “Happy Birthday” in sign language, a fitting tribute to their furry friend who is deaf.
“Cole was so playful and silly all day—he absolutely knew it was his special day,” Hannah shared. “Normally, he’s calm during work hours, but today, he couldn’t help but show off his playful side.” Cole appeared delighted by the attention, watching the students as they signed the song with care and precision.
The students were equally excited to be part of the celebration. “They practiced the song for weeks to make sure it was perfect for him,” Hannah said, adding that it was a thrilling moment for everyone involved to see Cole enjoying their heartfelt gesture.
After the song, Cole was treated to his favorite birthday treat—a cheeseburger. The students watched eagerly as their beloved therapy dog devoured it, then cheered as he was wheeled away, exhausted but content from the day’s festivities.
“Cole means the world to these students,” said Hannah. “It’s amazing to witness their deep love and respect for him. His presence in their lives is truly special.”
The celebration was a testament to the powerful bond between Cole and the students he serves, demonstrating that love and gratitude know no bounds—even for a furry hero who communicates through his heart, not his ears.
