Cricket, a lovable pit bull, has always been a people person. Adopted by Bob Kuykendall, she quickly won his heart, turning him into a proud advocate for the breed. “She’s incredibly friendly, submissive to everyone — even cats and chickens,” Kuykendall told The Dodo. “She loves meeting new people, and if someone doesn’t pet her, she’s left standing there, confused and whimpering.”
Despite her friendly nature, there’s one place Cricket isn’t so eager to visit: the vet. As a puppy, she had a tough time after breaking her leg, and while she’s since grown accustomed to the routine, the vet’s office still makes her nervous.
However, during a recent visit, Cricket experienced a surprise that left her both confused and relieved. Kuykendall explained that the visit marked the first time he brought Cricket to see his daughter, Maddie, who had just graduated as a veterinarian this year.
Upon walking into the exam room, Cricket froze when she saw her “sister” in her new role, dressed in the typical vet attire. Her tail wagged at first, but her confusion soon took over as she hesitated to approach. Was this really Maddie, or had the vet become someone else entirely?
After a few moments of uncertainty, Maddie knelt down and called to Cricket, offering comfort and affection. The realization dawned on the nervous pup — this was indeed her beloved family member, even if she had now joined the “dark side” of the veterinary world. Slowly, Cricket began to relax in her sister’s familiar embrace, realizing that this visit might not be so bad after all.
“I’m not sure if Cricket’s opinion of the vet has completely changed,” Kuykendall said with a chuckle. “But I’m hopeful that next time, she’ll look to Maddie for some reassurance.”
Perhaps having a friendly face at the vet’s office is just what Cricket needs to feel a little more comfortable on future visits.
