A Commerce City family is left heartbroken after their beloved dog, Rambo, was stolen and callously thrown from a moving car. The Ordonez family, who has lived with Rambo for over a decade, is now demanding justice for the 12-year-old dog.
Alex Ordonez, 18, said the absence of their loyal pet has left a void in their home. “You don’t hear the door scratching or our dog barking outside. It’s just different,” Ordonez shared, expressing the grief that has settled over the family in the wake of Rambo’s tragic fate.
The family adopted Rambo in 2012, receiving him as a gift from family friends. Since then, he has been an inseparable part of their lives. “Rambo was always with us in every moment,” said Ordonez, recalling the joy the dog brought to their tight-knit family.
Rambo went missing on November 23, after the Ordonez family let him spend time outside while they attended a church event. “He doesn’t usually wander off, he just guards our house,” Alex explained, unaware that Rambo’s fate had already taken a horrific turn.
Days later, the Ordonez family was stunned to see a post from the Commerce City Police Department featuring a photo of Rambo. It was then they learned the heartbreaking truth: Rambo had been thrown from a moving vehicle.
According to the Commerce City Police, a good Samaritan witnessed the cruel act. “He saw someone throw Rambo from the passenger side window of a vehicle at the intersection of East 64th Avenue and Monaco Street,” said Public Information Officer Joanna Small. The Samaritan heard Rambo yelp as he hit the ground, and rushed to assist, but tragically, the dog had suffered a severe spinal injury, rendering him paralyzed from the waist down. Despite efforts to save him, Rambo was euthanized due to the extent of his injuries.
For the Ordonez family, the grief is compounded by the fact that they never had the chance to say goodbye. “We tried to give him the best life, so it really sucks when you spend 12 years with this dog and he’s so close to your heart, and then he’s just gone,” Alex said emotionally.
While Alex expressed forgiveness toward the person responsible for the act, he is determined to seek justice. “I think we do need to find out who it is and take action for what they have done,” he stated, as the family continues to grieve.
Police are actively investigating the incident and are seeking any information that could lead to the identification of the suspect and the vehicle involved. The Ordonez family hopes that through public awareness, they will find the person responsible and ensure accountability for Rambo’s tragic end.
